We track 44+ instruments across forex, indices, stocks, commodities, and crypto — delivering real-time news breakdowns, weekly outlooks, live prices, market movers, whale tracking, and AI-powered analysis, all in one place. Our trending news feed and personal watchlist are designed to keep you informed and prepared for the week ahead. Below is a plain-language guide to the key economic releases and events that move markets.
Measures the change in prices paid by consumers for goods and services. It is the most widely watched inflation indicator. A higher-than-expected CPI print typically signals rising inflation, which can push central banks to raise interest rates — generally bullish for that country's currency.
Measures the change in prices received by domestic producers for their output. Often seen as a leading indicator of CPI — if producers are paying more, those costs eventually get passed to consumers. A hotter PPI can signal future inflation and support a currency.
The Federal Reserve's preferred inflation measure. It captures a broader range of spending than CPI and adjusts for changes in consumer behaviour. The Core PCE (excluding food and energy) is the most closely watched by the Fed when setting interest rate policy.
Inflation measured with food and energy prices stripped out. Because food and energy are volatile, core inflation gives a cleaner picture of underlying price pressure. Central banks focus on core when deciding whether to raise or hold rates.
The most market-moving US data release. Published on the first Friday of every month, it shows how many jobs were added or lost outside the farming sector. Strong job growth signals a healthy economy and can support the dollar. Weak numbers raise recession fears and can push USD lower.
The percentage of the labour force that is jobless and actively seeking work. A falling unemployment rate suggests economic strength. However, it can sometimes rise even in a healthy economy as more people start looking for work — context matters.
Tracks how fast wages are growing. Rising wages feed into consumer spending and inflation — if workers earn more, they spend more, pushing prices up. Central banks watch wage growth closely as a sign of persistent inflation pressure.
Weekly data showing how many people filed for unemployment benefits in the US. Initial claims are a real-time health check on the labour market. Surging claims are an early warning of economic deterioration and tend to weigh on the dollar.
The broadest measure of economic output — the total value of all goods and services produced in a country. Strong GDP growth supports a currency. Two consecutive quarters of negative GDP = recession, which is bearish for that currency and its equity markets.
A monthly survey of business activity. A reading above 50 = expansion, below 50 = contraction. It comes in two flavours — Manufacturing PMI and Services PMI. Because PMI is released early in the month, it often acts as a leading indicator for the broader economy.
Measures consumer spending at the retail level. Since consumer spending drives a large chunk of economic growth, strong retail sales are bullish for the currency. Weak numbers suggest consumers are pulling back, which can signal economic slowdown.
The difference between a country's exports and imports. A trade surplus (exports > imports) is generally positive for a currency as foreign buyers need to purchase that currency to buy exports. A deficit can put downward pressure on the currency over time.
The single most market-moving event. Central banks (Fed, ECB, BOE, RBA, etc.) set the benchmark interest rate, which influences borrowing costs across the entire economy. Rate hikes are typically bullish for a currency; rate cuts are bearish. The language in the accompanying statement often matters as much as the decision itself.
The Federal Open Market Committee meets roughly every 6 weeks to set US monetary policy. Every word of the statement is dissected by markets. Key phrases — "data dependent", "higher for longer", "pivot" — can move the dollar and global risk assets significantly.
After major rate decisions, the central bank governor holds a press conference. This is often more volatile than the decision itself — traders look for clues about future rate moves. Hawkish tone (hint at more hikes) = bullish for currency. Dovish tone (hint at cuts) = bearish.
QE is when a central bank buys assets (usually government bonds) to inject money into the economy — typically bearish for the currency as it increases money supply. QT is the reverse — selling assets to shrink the money supply, which is typically currency-supportive.
The number of new residential construction projects that began in a given period. A leading indicator of economic health — builders only break ground when they're confident buyers exist. Strong housing starts signal economic optimism and can support the currency.
Approvals for new construction projects. Since permits precede construction, this is an even earlier indicator than Housing Starts. A surge in permits suggests builders expect strong demand ahead.
Measures the number of homes sold in a period. Housing is rate-sensitive — rising interest rates make mortgages more expensive, reducing sales. Weak home sales in a high-rate environment can signal the economy is feeling the pinch of monetary tightening.
Weekly US data on how much crude oil is sitting in storage. A bigger-than-expected build (more supply) typically pushes oil prices down. A draw (less supply) pushes prices up. Oil prices directly affect CAD (Canada is a major oil exporter) and the broader inflation picture.
The Organisation of Petroleum Exporting Countries meets to set oil production quotas. Production cuts = less supply = higher oil prices. Production increases = more supply = lower prices. OPEC decisions ripple across currency markets, especially for oil-linked currencies like CAD and NOK.
Gold rises when investors seek safety — during recessions, geopolitical crises, or when real interest rates fall. It also has an inverse relationship with the US dollar: a weaker USD typically pushes gold higher, and vice versa. Gold is often the first to move when risk sentiment shifts.
